Calgary Reinstates Mask Bylaw

Over the past few days, since my recent email stating that all clients and staff are again required to wear masks at the salon, I have received 2 types of emails in response. Either 100% support or strong opposition. The blatant distain towards my decision to protect those that I care about was, quite frankly, appalling! In addition to the emails that I received, which I’m prepared to deal with, I was stunned to hear about the disgusting text messages that were directed towards my staff over a decision that they did not make nor have under their control. I have zero tolerance for abusive behaviour and I am saddened that some great stylists will lose clients and income because of a decision that I made and the close mindedness of others.

I understand that people are tired of this pandemic and that vaccinations were supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel, but I don’t feel that I have the right to ask clients for proof of vaccination. That is a deeply personal choice and confidential medical information and, with that, I have to act as if NO ONE is vaccinated and make decisions based on that. I’m not saying that I’m right, I’m saying that I am cautious and I take the safety of others very, very seriously.

As it so happens, I was just ahead of the curve, apparently, as the City of Calgary has now reinstated the mandatory masking bylaw and a local state of emergency. Follow the link below to read the full article from CBC news.

I wish that things could go back to the way they used to be as much as anyone else. I don’t know when, or even if, that will ever happen, so I will continue to make decisions that will protect the health and safety of those around me. As a private business owner, that is my right. As a member of the human race, that is my responsibility.

Take care. Stay safe. Be kind.

Masks Required

With the ongoing rise in Covid-19 cases in Alberta, combined with our children returning to school and the highly contagious Delta variant, we are reintroducing mandatory masking at The Refinery, effective immediately

Although this will not be the most popular decision, we feel it is in the best interest of our clients and staff. There are people close to the staff, including some of the staff themselves, that are particularly vulnerable to any illness, not just Covid-19, that warrant this conservative approach.

Please note that if you cannot wear a mask for any reason, we still welcome you to the salon. Please advise your stylist upon your arrival, and we will make any necessary adjustments to ensure your safety and that of everyone at the salon during your visit.

We thank you in advance for your understanding. Please contact us to reschedule your appointment if you are feeling unwell or have been in close contact with anyone that has tested positive for Covid-19 or is awaiting results of a test.

As much as we are all tired of hearing it, we are all in this together, and we will do our very best to keep you, your family, and ours safe.
